Mimi was rescued by her current Dog Mom, Michele, when her former owner passed away.

When Michele first brought Mimi home, she was 34 pounds and could only walk a few steps before needing a rest. After taking Mimi for an exam, it was discovered that she has Cushing’s disease.

Cushing’s Disease is a serious condition that causes the body to produce too much of the hormone, Cortisol. The disease can only be managed and can never be cured. Mimi will be on medication for the rest of her life.

Today, Mimi weighs 18 pounds, which is nearly half of her original body weight. She’s on a strict healthy diet, walks multiple miles every day and goes swimming. She had knee surgery in June 2018 and is almost back to walking 2 miles.

“I started an IG account for Mimi (@mimiweightlossjourney) because I wanted to advocate for overweight dogs, to bring awareness to Cushing’s Disease, and for rescued dogs.” Michele told us. “I feel so strongly about pet obesity. I hope Mimi’s story inspires pet owners to keep their pets at an ideal weight, and encourages them to exercise them regularly. Pets can live a more enjoyable life when they are healthy.”

We met Mimi at one of our Pet Photo Shoot Fundraisers in Tampa.
