Each month, I volunteer at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to take photos of their adoptable animals for the website and social media. Taking photos of animals at the shelter has been great practice for my Photo Shoot Fundraiser and I always learn something new about animal behavior. Today, I learned that cats are drastically different than dogs when it comes to getting their attention.

First of all, cats don’t eat peanut butter and their personalities run a wide spectrum. They do love cat treats though! Some will just sit in position, some will look everywhere but at the camera and others refuse to have their picture taken.

Special thanks to Michael and Dorthea for their help this week. Oddly enough, I’m allergic to cats so I rely on the handlers to get them into position. I can be around them, but I just can’t touch them. Go figure. The background for the cat photos may look different than it does for the dogs. It looks different because I haven’t figured out an efficient way to edit around their whiskers. It’s very tedious to outline them and would take 30-45 minutes for 1 photo.

As an FYI, some of these animals may have found their forever home prior to you reading this. A good problem to have, right?
