Meagan, a friend of mine who works in Downtown Tampa saw an older looking dog laying on the ground next to what looked like two homeless people who were incapacitated. She posted on Facebook asking if anyone who lived/worked downtown knew who this was. Her initial photo included a comment about the dog looking healthy and well cared for, which caught her by surprise given the unique situation.

As a pet lover and downtown Tampa resident, I couldn’t help but keep an eye on the comments and any updates. Even though I live downtown, I’ve haven’t come across this woman and her dog. Meagan initially noticed them on Tuesday, but answered comments on her Facebook post all week.

A few days passed and on Friday, I saw the most amazing gesture of heartfelt kindness I have ever seen. Meagan and a friend of hers decided to buy food, toys, treats and items for the woman because they wanted to make sure she was okay. They also planned a trip to Subway to buy her some dinner and Meagan saw the woman approaching. Meagan quickly jumped out of line to greet the woman and asked if she was hungry and if she wanting anything to eat. She had a very specific order and wanted a cookie too!

The woman’s name is Robin and her dog’s name is Nikki. Robin is on the last step to securing housing and Nikki is 5 about to turn 6. I was blown away when I read what Meagan and her friend did and I’m sure Nikki was too. Kudos to Meagan and her friend. It’s nice to see there is so much good in the world.

It was clear that Robin took great care of Nikki. Nikki was all that Robin had left.

Let’s raise money for Robin.

Meaghan and I want to raise $5,ooo for Robin and Nikki to help them get on their feet. We started this GoFundMe Page.
