I met Annabelle during a Pet Photo Shoot Fundraiser for Humane Society of Sarasota County. When I finished with the appointment right before hers, I got up and saw multiple people huddled around her, asking questions of her owners and saying how beautiful and calm she was. I knew right away that she was something special and that I had to write a story about her for the Pit Bull Picture Project.

Annabelle was adopted in 2015 by the Phillips family. She sometimes goes by Bella and has taken Obedience I, Obedience II, Agility and Pet Therapy Training at Humane Society of Sarasota County. The staff at the shelter loved Bella and her sweet temperament so much that they encouraged her new adopters to get her certified as a pet therapy dog.  They call her the Humane Society of Sarasota County Pit Bull Ambassador.

“Bella loves her pet therapy work and has participated in events at nursing homes, rehab centers and elementary schools.” said Marcia Phillips. “Some people are a little intimidated by her breed when they first meet her, but when they see how friendly and goofy she can be, they warm up to her quickly.”

Bella was a pleasure to take photos of, especially because of her goofy facial expressions.

About the Pit Bull Picture Project

Phase 1 of the Pit Bull Picture Project was to simply take photos of owned and adoptable Pit Bulls, to show how goofy and lovable they are and to inspire more adoptions. Phase II of the project is to actually fund Pit Bull adoptions. Funding adoptions helps me determine how many adoptions my photography and social media efforts have lead to. If you would like to contribute to the Pit Bull Picture Project, you can make a monthly contribution to the project on Patreon or purchase a My Dog is a Pit Bull shirt or tote bag.
